Can't get the forward-neutral-reverse on my Beep to operate even after working on/off switch under engine.

The shell can be removed by prying sideways and up at the red "fuel" markings.
Verify that all of the wires are connected and the switch is centered on the access hole. If everything appears to be in order and it still doesn't work you should be able to get it repaired under warranty.

I have seen this on certain power transformers with the Beep loco. The Beep electronic "E" unit requires the power to completely bleed off to switch cycle directions. Perhaps you need a load on the track, a lighted lock-on or lighted caboose. May as well try that before the warranty route..

I had a somewhat similar problem with one of my early Beeps. Rather than pop the shell and risk voiding the warranty, I returned it to the dealer where I bought it who gladly exchanged it for another one. Unlike the first one, I had him put the second one on his store layout and put it through its paces before I left. I asked him if he would "repair" the faulty Beep himself and he said at that price it was easier to send it Walter for a replacement and let him decide what to do with it.
