Lionel train set price
Posted by Blueberryhill RR on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 11:25 AM
Can anyone tell me the catalog price of a Lionel train set from 1949?
The set number is 2141WS 4-Car Freight set.
Chris F. was nice enough to get me the set number back in April.
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

I have only one postwar Lionel catalog (1959), so I didn't think I'd be able to help. However, I do have David Doyle's "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains, 1945-1969", which does show some sample catalog pages.

You're in luck! Page 26 of Mr. Doyle's book just happens to show page 18 of Lionel's 1949 Consumer Catalog, which covers outfit 2141WS. The catalog price was $57.50. That's $470.15 in 2005 dollars, and the set didn't include a transformer!

The catalog price was $57.50. If you'd like a scan of the catalog pages, I'd be happy to e-mail one to you.
