Repainting 3484-25 cars
Posted by wrray on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 3:22 PM
I have a pair of 3484-25 operating box cars that are structurally sound, but the orange looks - well peeked. On one the roof area as black "ink spots" and the roof looks like someone tried to remove, but got some of the paint.
My problem is not the color, but the markings. The cars are heat stamped not rubber stamped. I have considered using a liquid or tape mask to cover over the markings, but worry about color matching the new versus the old paint. I have also considered repainting the markings as the raised ridges provide some guides. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
PS - I'm a displayer and operator as housing prices in the SF Bay area have assured my retirement funds.

I think what you could do is not to worry about preserving the originals, unless repro or NOS decals for the cars are not availible. There are several decal suppliers, just to name a few....

Hope this helps,
