Oklahoma City Great Train Show
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 13, 2005 9:08 PM
Greetings,

I noticed in the latest issue of Classic Toy Trains there is a Great American Train Show in Oklahoma City June 25-26. Anyone know if this will be a large show? It is a 3 hour drive one way. Just wondering if it would be worth the drive.

Thanks[?]

Based on the last GATS I went to in OKC, it wouldn't even be worth crossing the street to see, much less a six hour round trip.

Assuming you've been to the December OKC Train Show, this is how GATS compares:

Same building yes, but whereas the December show features wall to wall dealers with layouts mixed in, last time GATS had about half the hall taken up with dealers and layouts and the other half was kids rides and concessions, with lots of open space throughout. No local dealers that I saw. Not all that much O and what was there was all new and full price plus some it seemed. I didn't see any good prices in HO either.

Things may have changed entirely this time around but, based on the last one and from whatI've heard on other forums, I can think of a lot better way to spend a Saturday, six hours, and a tank of gas!

Just my 2ยข...

I have to agree. GATS is a joke, especially in OKC. Stay away. A six hour drive will not be worth it. There is a train show June 25 at the Dewey OK fairgrounds. It will have a lot more O than GATS will. Dewey is about 4 miles north of Bartlesville, which is 50 or so North of Tulsa. I don't know where you are coming from but it may be closer than OKC for you

All Lionel all the time.

Thanks guys. You've been a big help. I know the GATS in Little Rock, AR I went to a few years back was a dud, too.
