Hi Sam, Welcome to the CTT forum [#welcome]

Here is a pic of a Madison car

and here is a streamline (or sometimes called heavyweight)

Notice the differance in the roof designs.

Madison cars are those similar to the Lionel 2627, which was named "Madison". See
http://www.postwarlionel.com/cgi-bin/postwar?ITEM=2625

Heavyweights are heavy older-style prototype passenger cars like the Madison. They usually have clerestory roofs and six-wheel trucks (to carry the weight). Heavyweights and streamliners are not the same thing.

Hi Tom: The first photo appears to be a short heavyweight, The second photo I guess you could call a streamliner??? Is heavyweight and Madison interchangeable???

You can tell that I have been working to many hours this week, Bob is correct. The Madison were sometimes called Heavyweights.

Yes the first pic is a RK Madison. Becuase it is a RK, it is shorter than scale and runs on 027 track.

Hello Sam ! The Original name for a Madison Passenger Car was Irvington which is what the Pre & Post war Lionel versions were called and were so named on account of the fact that the Lionel Factory used to be located in Irvington, New Jersey. Just a Little historical tidbit for you...................Keith
