Polar Express passenger car colors

Does anyone know what paints are available for the Polar Express passenger cars? I have some MPC cars (baggage, combo, and diner) that I would like to paint to add to my set. Also, has anyone attempted to use the MPC 6-wheel trucks from the Blue Comet or Chessie sets on the Poalr Express cars?

I read a post somewhere that the PE's passenger car's paint scheme is based on a real railroad's. Which one escapes me though.

The 6-wheeled trucks would look much better on the cars than the 4-wheeled versions that come in the set. The Lionel prototype cars that they showed at the 2004 Toy Fair and in last year's catalog had the 6-wheeled trucks. They look so much better than the 4-wheelers.

I've had a PE set sitting in a closet for a month now and have to wait until June to give it to my kids (twins) as a birthday gift. I can't wait to get it running!

I've got the Polar Express running on a shelf system in my trainroom ...... the colors appear to be fairly close to the Erie-Lackawana. I'm hardly an expert with this stuff ... but as soon as I opened up the boxes - that's the first roadname that came to mind.

Thanks for the paint info. I will check the colors this weekend at the hobby shop.


I haven't run the set yet, it has been in the showcase since new. I think that it looks great but could be improved.I am waiting for my granddaughter to visit on Christmas, and would like to have more cars done for that.

Mine was only an "educated" guess .... as I said, I'm no expert .... the color scheme just sorta hit me right off.

While those pictures show the system as almost complete - it is now. So more pictures will be added next week...

I think the set is great - it was purchased pretty much as an idea I had to have a little something more to entertain my grandkids with. The movie, in my opinion, is one of those Christmas classics and the train is outstanding - even if it is animated. I think Lionel did a great job with their version and mine runs fine. I'm still not "sure" about the FasTrack ... but, I'm an HO MRRer and my last experience with O/O-27 was a long time ago - 1940's & 50's.
