Came Across A Bargain Today
Posted by Frank53 on Saturday, April 9, 2005 3:09 PM
We have a dollhouse store in my town I have been meaning to visit for a while. I figured perhaps there is some 1/48 stuff I can cannibalize.

Stopped there today only to find out they are going out of business.

Unfortunately, they primarily have big doll house stuff, materials, furniture, people and the like.

However, in a remote corner I found a floor rack of woodland scenices material - all half price.

Picked up 40 boxes of various trees of the usual six to a box variety for just under $150.00 and every bag of lichen on the rack.

I also managed to pick up a load of modeling wood for scratch building, some lighting materials that should work fine and a few odds and ends.

For just over $200.00, it's scenery heaven.

Good for you Frank. I know over time during my more active train-buying years, I found bargains along the way that were very very good.

They usually come when you least expect them. It's like many of us have said, you just have to be patient... and ready when the bargain is in front of you.

Frank, Check back with them and see if they have any 1/4scale doll house furniture. This would be 'O' scale and you may find some at a real deal.

A great find on the trees.

Sometimes it pays to shop other than just train stores.

I am a person with a very active inner child. This is why my wife loves me so. Willoughby, Ohio - the home of the CP & E RR. OTTS Founder www.spankybird.shutterfly.com

spanky - I searched hi and lo for anything near 1/43/48/50 - no luck.

However, they were running a class where folks were scratch building a Harry Potter scene of a pub and a street scape - 16 peole all building this - all from scratch. Very cool job they were doing. I recognized one of teh people in the class - an old friend I had not seen in about 15 years - it was an extra bonus for the day.

I know there's the 1/4 scale doll house furniture out there but I have yet been able to find anywhere locally that offers it.
