Mask
Posted by FJ and G on Saturday, March 19, 2005 10:30 AM
I believe there was a movie title once by that name. I recently switched from wearing goggles to a full face mask. I've been hit in the neck and face with flying debris and feel it offers more protection as well as a better view.

It is also more comfortable with a nice band that goes around the head. It also flips up easily so I can examine my work when my equipment is not in use.

Some folks use both--and that makes sense around the table saw, which propels objects that break the sound barrier--but I've opted for limited protection, being the mask, and taking care.

In fact I'm using the mask as we speak, to cut some guard rails for my turnouts.

[#ditto] Yes, it took me a couple slices with the Xacto, & I learned. I do always use safety glasses when grinding or cutting with a dremel & my boy automaticly wears them too. It's good to remind us though. Thanks, John

I wear glasses, so modest protection is always in place. BTW, I had the glasses store make me a pair of bi-focals just for closeup work: 20 inch focus, with 10 inch focus in the bifocal area. Now I can see the saw and the ruler.

I alway put on a face mask when using a rotary wire brush. The brush seems to be the worst tool for shooting out dangerous projectiles.

I've read that the best protection to wear while making saw dust, if you have a beard, is a full mask with a powered air filter. As I have a beard, I looked into these things. $225 will get you one.

I'm seriously considering shaving off my beard.
