Electronic Snap Kits

Today's visit to Radio Shack yielded an interesting find. A bit Electronic Snap Kit for $99 that does 750 projects, incl photo sensor, alarms, motion detectors, and a whole lot more. The smaller set goes for $49.

I believe that the parts just snap into place so you would n't be able to hone your soldering skill.

Yet, I think this is a fabulous way for neofytes to learn about electronics.

The only drawback, besides not soldering, is they're pricey. Jameco (online) offers kits a lot cheaper.

But on the plus plus side, since the parts snap together, you can easily alter or do new projects without soldering and resoldering.

These kits are sure something to think about if you want to understand what Bob N and others talk about all the time, from resistors to capacitors and other stuff. Didn't look to see if there were transistors in there but that kit would teach a lot anyway.

Sounds like a cool update of the older experimenter kit they had. In the old kits, parts were mounted on a board and there were springs alongside each component contact. You would flex the spring and attach a wire. The spring tension would hold the wire in place and make the electrical contact.

I have several of those older spring wire kits, and still get them out occasionally. It sounds like the new kits are worthy replacements.
