missing truck cabs

I don't know if I ever mentioned this before (I'm getting old and sometimes repeat myself) but I have several TOFC cars and was thinking of making a small truck loading facility. Problem is, the TOFC cars came with the trailer but no cab.

I think it would be nice if mfgrs offered the cabs as well, even if the price were a bit higher (or as an option). The trucks are metal and nice, but cabs would be nicer.

Hey Dave, check out the new Athearn trucks, they are really nice. The only draw back for youmight be that they are 1/50 th scale. Hope that is what you are looking for.

Guys,

Tom idea sounds best. I guess you don't Really need a matching cab. After all, trucks miss-match all the time.

I'm unsure what scale my trailers are. Made by Weaver. I could simply try to locate a cab.

Mine is from 60s and 50s. Tom's looks a bit more modern but might work? Looks like a 1970s design.

The only thing can't really have is the modern cabs with the ugly airstream dealy above the cab. Those are real eyesores!

BTW, on the ride in on VRE train to work, there's a Flippo construction site with a 1950s tank truck out back, sans cab, that I always admire. They were a lot smaller back then.

Do the trucks even have studs on them to hook to a tractor. If they do, Lionel makes one

Tom, the old 1950s red cab; yes!!!! The green airstreamed top. NOO!!!!

Both look nice but I like the old-style trucks. Not as monster looking as the new beasties but they had a certain charm.

Not much room for sleeping for the driver and his girlfriend, tho

FJ and G, If you get a rig and you'd like it to match the trailer.....paint and decals!!!!! That's what I would do. I helped a friend make a fleet of Railbox
boxcars. They were available but it would have cost a lot. So he bought a lot of well worn cars for cheap and we painted them up.

Here's a fleet of trucks I got on sale about 2 years ago from Target up near York Pa. Cost $2.50 each! These are about 1:50 and date from 1950s. Tru Value truck I got for $10 from Guess Where? Included a 1:20 replica of this smaller truck. Eventually I'll repaint and rust it out.

Also shown is a new technique I invented for making tie plates from cardstock.
