Latch couplers?

Could anyone please tell me who invented the Prewar Lionel so-called latch couplers?

Hi Lou,

Mario Caruso invented the "latch" coupler for Lionel in 1924. At the time it was called the "Automatic" coupler. It picked up the name "latch" sometime later.
