IC Green Diamond

Used to ride this between St. Louis and Chicago in the 40s.... wondered if models were made and found that Pride Lines does or did... wonder if anyone else did? And was this the same as the M10000? I just did a "buy it now" UP M10000 MTH....looks similar. But I remember riding a heavyweight observation car whereas the first 30s Green Diamond was strictly a steamliner, so it must have been a later F or E diesel with heavyweight Pullman consist.

What a wonderful memory, H.C., and welcome to the Forum. I am jealous of your new M 10000, I have also looked for one! I recommend going to Google.com - select Images and type in Illinois Central Green Diamond and you'll find some shots of this famed streamliner from the 1930s as well as a later named train as you remember behind an E unit. The older one did look a bit like an M10000

American Flyer made a model of this train back in the 1930's when the real Green Diamond was new. Pride Lines based their model on it. These sets are very rare and expensive, so if you're thinking of buying one and on a budget, the Pride Lines set would be the answer.

Just like the M10000, the Green Diamond was a protoype early streamliner; no others were built exactly like it. Good luck and enjoy with your MTH version; the orignal M was scrapped for its valuable aluminum in the early part of the Second World War.
