Best Date for a Train Show

I know that train shows are held almost year-round. But what do you think is the very best day of the year to have a train show? I noticed that summer shows are not that well attended. And winter shows are iffy due to the weather. Likewise, attendance at both spring and fall shows are sometimes influenced by the weather, as nice sunny days sometimes keep visitors away from the show. What do you think?

HI Bill,
If its spring, April. They should already have tax refund to spend and weather should be good for travel, but not good enought for yard work.

In the fall, late Oct. Yard work should be done, and its time to think about Christmas trains.

BTW - April would also mean my birthday present.

She should be cute, and it helps if she likes trains. [swg]

I couldn't resist. Seriously though, calanderwise, it has to be early December. Summer is almost certain death. Think of it this way, the shorter the length of daylight, the more people's minds turn to trains. Daylight savings time is a real killer.

By the way, serious train lovers will brave most any weather.[8D]

Great observations Big Boy. Most of the early December train shows in the NYC metro area are very well attended. The Wayne PAL show was held this year the day after Christmas and it was the best attended show in years. Go figure?

Depends on what kind of train show you want.
A trade show can appear anytime new product comes out. It helps for manufacturers to have something new each month.
The best GATS type shows happen in the fall thru spring each year. A lot of product comes out in time for the holiday season, then you can get bargains in January. You always need something else to go with the train you just bought.
A true train show with little or no selling can be either in the spring or fall. I'd like to see some of the models in SNFF or the other picture forums. Summer shows like the NMRA convention are good to visit another part of the country. It may be easier for members to plan their vacation time for convention trips.
It's too bad the rent is so high for LHS to be in major malls & put on shows at any time of the year. One of the malls here in Nashville has space for a permanet G scale layout. You can visit any Saturday-Sunday, get in out of the heat/cold.
