Replace 153C with a relay

I would like information on how to build a relay replacement for the 153C to control a Block Signal.

I use a DPDT relay energized by an insulated rail section to change the target light from green to red.

There are several books which detail the process and I believe it has been covered in a back issue of CTT.

The relay can be powered from the Hot side of your track transformer. The ground side of the relay is wired to the insulated rail. (If you use a DC relay, a rectifier will convert the AC from thr transformer to DC to operate the relay). When train wheels touch the insulated rail they close the circuit and energize the relay.

The common connection from the target block is routed to the transformer ground. The two hot connections from the target block red and grean lights is connected to each side of the relay. I connect the green side to the relat contact that is normally closed when the relay is de-energized. This will keep the signal green when no train is on the insulated rail. The wire from the red light connection is wired to the contact that is normally open when de-energized. The a wire is run from the common commection on the relay to the hot side of the transformer.
