My Uncle Stan has a Standard Gauge Brown State Cars with a Black 400E locomotive.
My Grandpa's friend has a MTH Tinplate Traditions Blue Comet.
I have operated each alot, I love standard gauge. I hope to purchase a Blue Comet and Freight Set.

Pretty nice. WOuld be interesting to see the rest of the layout.

Actually, interested in all gauges as there's something to learn from each.

sure am, I love the classic period stuff.just got a 390e . It's about 75 years old and runs like new! .my most prized is a 354 set pulled by a # 10. right now I'm building some five rail so I can run both standard and o gauge on the same main line. I agree why buy the repos when you can get the orignals at about the same cost. on on that same subject mike wolf crying that lionel stole his designs but look he's making all that lionel tin plate shame shame on you.

Lionel 200# series freight cars. #1835 Loco, Lionel #10 Loco and small passeger set I restored. American Flyer SG Loco, run on home made five rail, dual guage tinplate track.

I love standard gauge and am very interested in it! All I have at present, though, is a #38 electric with a flatcar, boxcar and caboose. Unfortunately, I don't have any permanent place to set them up, so they spend most of their time sitting on shelves in my train room.

You better believe I'm into Standard gauge! I have the re-issued Lionel Hellgate, #840 power station, the station and terrace from 2003, and I just bought an MTH 384E freight set. There is no going back to postwar-style O gauge for me now. I'm hooked. One of these days I AM going to have to get some originals, though.

I don't own any Standard gauge myself. I think it's beautiful though. I love to be able to buy a MTH repoduction set some day to run around the Christnmas tree. A 2-4-2 w/4 green cars with red/orange window frames. I'm out of room in my current home. Until then, I'm happy folks like you MTH and Lionel keep it alive. They are facinating to watch!

I love Standard Gauge. My own collection consists of about a dozen or more locomotives and some 60-70 freight and passenger cars--most of which is MTH, Lionel Classics (made by MTH for Lionel), McCoy, RichArt, and a couple of others. I also have a good number of Standard Gauge accessories, mostly from MTH, which I use with both Std. Gauge and Marklin's #1 Gauge MAXI trains.

I prefer the new stuff myself because I like my Standard Gauge trains to be bright, shiny, and as pristine as possible. Besides, the newer trains are, for the most part, even better made (and smoother operating) than the originals. I'm NOT knocking those great original items--just stating my personal preferences.

And as for those who prefer to bash MTH regardless of what they do:

Standard Gauge would have pretty much disappeared from the scene had it not been for Mike Wolf's continuing interest in serving this small segment of the hobby. There's no disputing that simple fact. I, along with hundreds of other enthusiasts, would very likely not even be seriously involved with Standard Gauge had it not been for Mike and his long-professed love of those wonderful toys. I'm grateful for the reproductions he has made and is making. If he hadn't done it, you can be darn sure nobody else would.

By the way, are you the same Allan Miller that co-edited Peter Riddle's book America's Standard Gauge Electric Trains? That book is a great read!
