Where to find Postwar Lionel For Sale Online?
Posted by FEClionel on Monday, January 31, 2005 10:07 PM
I'm looking to expand my postwar collection. I recently acquired a nice but not collectible set of 2033's. Now I want to find a collectible set. I live in South Florida were there aren't a lot of train shows. I was wondering were are some good sights besides Ebay that I can find good postwar.

I'm in South Florida as well. Whereabouts?

I believe there is a ton of post war stuff which has flodded the market with the passing of teh folks who bought the trains in the 50's, which has depressed prices over teh past few years.

I could be wrong - just my observation. Problem being, most of it makes it's way to ebay, and the stuff that goes to shops is usually overpriced (no offense to dealers - you have familes to feed too). I don't know that it is as bad as the coin business (my other hobby), families bring Dad's stuff in and sell it to a coin dealer who undergrades everything at the "buy" counter, and overgrades everything at the "sell" counter.

You really need to find it at the source, and being here in Florida, folks who had trains up North have a tendency to leave them up North when they relocate to sunny Florida for retirement. I think you could find a lot of great stuff in estate sales in NJ and Pennsylvania, but not as much down here.

The LCCA has a buy-sell board ("eTrack"), but you have to be a member to use it. As you might imagine, it has a pretty large selection of Lionel PW items. However, the only 2033 currently advertised for sale has a price of $450 (Like New, with Grade 1 box and Lionel wrapping paper).

Your best bet is to join the TCA and get to know their interchange ads.
