If you actually own any Lionel prewar 0 gauge locos, which is your favorite to run? And if you don't currently have any lionel prewar 0 gauge locos which one loco would you buy if you were to run it on your layout?
My Lionel 1666 runs and pulls very well!
I have a 262E that I run on a separate track loop without switches. Use the track for prewar stuff. Love the looks of the brass and copper piping. also have an art deco torpedo style (1666?)that runs well and looks good.
I checked, Its a 1688 from the late 30s
I've only got one, a Lionel 259e that I bought on impulse at one of our club shows, it came with a tank car, staked flatcar and a caboose and all in nearly-new condition. And the price was right too! It was so cartoony-looking I just couldn't resist it.
I set it up as a Christmas display on the dining room table and it was really a gas to watch in operation!

I like it, I got some similar cars.
My now favorite prewar lionel loco I run is my 150 loco. What I like about it is its simplicity. Especially considering that the 150 was on the lower end of the electric Desiels that lionel offered at the time around 1917-1919. It didn't come with a manual reverse like the 154 or 156 but the early headlight and the bell are really cool.

I have 2 prewar o gauge locos. A Lionel 259 and an American Flyer 3195(?). The Flyer loco is cast iron and overheats easily. The 259 (no E) runs, but it wobbles off the rails easily. So, both are pretty much shelf queens at the moment. Here they are:
