Looking for advice on how to deal with rust on Marx cars. I was given some Marx Lithographed cars that are in good shape except for rust on the damaged Lithograph. How do you stop the rust and preserve the Lithograpy. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Can you post some pics to get a better idea of what you are dealing with?
Beyond my ability to figure out how to post photo here Sorry I have pics just do not understand how to get them here.
How bad is the rust?
The rust as eaten into the painted lithograpk surfaces in small spots not more than 1/8 to 1/4 square areas they look like they maybe the result of mouse urine
If This Works here are pics
Hi Philo426 I hope you can see the pics
Thought I might give a little history here. I got a call and was asked if I would Like a Train set, the person was cleaning out their basement. They sent me some photos and I realized it was a Marx train set. I was asked to take the set or it was going to the dump. I took the set. It consists of a 999 loco and NYC tender, 70311 Penn box car,256 tank car, 347000 Penn Gondola and a 92812 Reading caboose. The cars all have some amout of rust on them since they are Lithographed , I am unsure how to stop the rust. My goal is not to restore them but to conserve them
Thank You
Ok any type of abrasive will damage the litho I would say get a soft cloth and dip it in a little soft scrub and gently rub it and see if it improves it's appeaance.
Once cleaned, I would spray on clear coat to stop the rust. A couple clear coats should stop further rust since oxygen cant get to it.
