I am putting together a military train for the 80th anniversary of D-Day a year from now. I am looking for an army caboose that looks more like the real thing than a caboose with LEDs or a spinning searchlight. Your thoughts?
Most prototype military trains usually have a DODX caboose in tow. And most of those are non-descript, wide-vision caboose types, and they come in a multitude of colors.
If you're looking for a quick answer, the Menard's ARMY caboose should fit the bill.
I would say it should depend on what kind of train you're assembling. If you have all premier/scale cars with scale size military equipment, you might NOT want to tack on a "traditional" size caboose...and vise-versa.
It is the Menards army caboose I am hoping to replace. Alternately blinking LEDs just don't seem 1940s world war II. I am not a rivet counter but that is a bridge too far as is a Lionel army caboose with spinning searchlight.
Ok, you're wanting something more authentic. Each host railroad would supply it's own caboose for the military trains. I like K-Line's PRR caboose with BUY WAR BONDS emblazoned on its sides.
