Replacing hook on box coupler?
Posted by Michael6268 on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 6:22 PM

I've got a hook missing on a Lionel box coupler. I was wondering how you go about attaching it? Looks like it just goes in the slot and was pressed? I'm guessing pressing it deforms it enough to hold it in tight? I've Got a brand new hook.

I used super glue. You probably need a hobbyhorse press and a certain piece for it

I guess nobody does pre-war on this toy train site. Thanks for your response smokey1. I pressed it the best I could with a press and some attachments, and took your advice and put super glue just for extra security.

I wouldn't say that's the case, chances are nobody knew the answer. Hmm  You did get 180+ views after all.

I've got a pre-war box coupler Lionel train but I've never had to repair any of the couplers, so I didn't know what to say.

If you call Jeff at the train tender (www.ttender.com ) he use to do repairs before selling parts, he can tell you the properway for it to be done, but I bet it's with a arbor press/ hobby press and a certain die
