Need a Diesel
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 12:30 AM
I want to buy an MTH Diesel. I need Protosound 2. I want the biggest Diesel that can run on O-31. It needs to have run in California in the late 1950's or early 1960's. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Craig

crahol,

You would be looking for a Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Santa Fe, or Western Pacific F7, F3, or E8 (larger than the others). Also GP7's. There are probably others that apply but would take more research on my part. Maybe some others can add some appropriate models and lines.

Craig,

MTH has F and E units from that period.

For freight, the largest loco of that period would be the SD-24, which they offer as well.

For freight, the black and silver livery is pre-1960 color and blue warbonnet is post, so your timeframe is pretty good for variety of 1st and 2nd generation diesels.
