Am I the only one that feels this way?

I have 13 steamers on my layout and 3 diesel lashups. I find that I love watching the steamers run and get bored quite fast with the diesels.
So much so that I ran my diesels last night for the 1st time in a year and still not very much fun.
What is your preference?????????? Dave.

I too, prefer the steam engines over diesles. I like both, but steam just has better sites & sounds.

Same here, Dave. Steam is always #1 with me, although I do like to run diesels and big electrics.

Side rod action, chuffing, smoke, etc. is just more interesting to me.

I prefer steam myself. Got my first tmcc engine recently (lionel baby k4). Loved it at first, tried running it last night, no chuffing, or brake squeal, grrrrrrr.

I guess I'm backwards. I love diesels. Modern railroad. I have steamers but mainly post war [1950's]. Plan on getting some command steamers in the future. I love to play with trains so I am constantly loading coal and unloading coal, loading and unloading husky tacks with my crane, loading and unloading logs at the saw mill and loading tanks and fueling engnies. I love to see big lashups showing strong diesel power pulling long trains. [:D]

With 21 diesels and zero steam... pretty much points to my preferences. I just like the modern look of diesels.

50 50 for me certain things look cool with a steamer and the same for a diesel.

I have to agree, STEAM is KING.

90% of my engines are steam

I also enjoy the steam engines and the time period they represent. Diesels are cool, but steamers are first choice...especially the whistle sounds...

I think nostalgia plays a big part to our visuals and the action of steamers just can't be matched, although my new MTH F-3's are pretty awesome, especially when you hook on those 60' passenger cars. It's all good.

I must be a little strange as I love the look of F3 in santa fe sitting on the layout, just do not care much about running them even with QSI 3000's in them.

Steam is the Rail King. Look at Disney World, they have all steam when they could've had diesels. Steam trains are poetry in motion

mcattardo,

Please grab your engines manual and page to the back. There is a protocol for re-programming your engine's electronics. All it will require is the PROGRAM/RUN switch in the "PROGRAM" position, and punch in the numbers in your manual.

All in all it takes about 30 seconds, and will restore chuff, squeal, headlight, smoke, and other features.

Thanks kooljock, but that doesn't work. I noticed after I posted above, it chuffs once or twice randomly. Must be a switch or something.

Mcattardo,

I don';t know if this helps, but I had a lionel T1 Duplex that would only chuff occasionally once or twice. I sent it back to Lionel and they fixed it.
