Crazy 3D model I designed
Posted by pennytrains on Friday, March 11, 2022 5:10 PM

I recently found this photo which I thought I had lost.  It's a rendering of a 3D model train set that I worked up years ago using Metasequoia.  Obviously I had three things in mind: Dreyfuss' Hudsons, Milwaukee's Beavertails and Disney's monorails.  If I remember correctly, I did this around 2007 or 8.

The background was a stock image btw.

Surprise That cow-catcher looks more like a wedge-o-matic.

Turn your 3d model into an .stl file and find somebody with a 3d printer.

You know what that "Dreyfuss" needs?  A car speared on the end of the "cowcatcher!"  Wink

I did try to turn it into a paper model.  But I didn't really understand how things worked at the time.  Those hidden polygons and intersecting vortices came out as a completely uninteligible mess in 2D.
