Lionel Postwar Piggy Back Transportation Set

From 1955-57 Lionel produced a #460 Piggy Back Transportation Set that manually controlled a forklift by using a hand-controlled wheel to rotate the forklift and a lever to lift 2 semi-trailers on or off an adjoining #3460 flatcar. I motorized the platform using 2 micro motors, one to lift and one to rotate the forklift.
I wrote a detailed construction article on how I did it and it will appear in the MARCH/APRIL 2022 edition of CLASSIC TOY TRAINS MAGAZINE.
Here is a video of how it operates on my layout.

Always like your videos, Dave. I would be tempted to name the forklift driver Ricky Bobby. Laugh

Great job on the motorization, very ingenious!

I'm looking forward to the article!

That is a very nice conversion.  Looks like it operates smoothly.

I've had one of those for as long as i can remember.  Still have it.  The crank and lever operation provided me many hours of entertainment when I was much younger.

I'm still waiting for mine, and a few other things too.  It's the PO, what are you gonna do?

Nice article Dave, I just got to read it yesterday.  Great idea and use of simple parts to turn this accessory into a fun piece.

I especially liked the thoroughness of the build construction and part description in the article.  If I run across one of these, I will be doing your modifications.

There is one small correction to the magazine article. On the parts list, the micro gear motor is DC, not AC.  The motor is the most dificult part to find, but if you Google "micro geat motor" you will find many sellers.
