022 switches don’t throw completely

I have an 022 switch which doesn't throw completely to either position under the action of the solenoid.  It does throw all the way manually when operated by rotation of the lantern

an excellent article in CTT in February 2013 Discusses complete overhaul, but does not relate any particular step to this particular problem

What voltage are you running to them, or are they running from only track power? There is a fixed voltage plug connection on the side which allows direct power injection... usually 12 or 14v. Cleaning and light lubrincation is also beneficial, but I'm sure you've thought of that! :)

running on about 14v ac from right throttle of SW transformer. Other motors run satisfactorily  on that voltage.

your reply is extremely complete, but it seems to be be oriented toward electrical problems, and I believe i have a mechanical problem; perhaps something limitung the travel of the armature of the solenoid, or possibly a loss of proper allignment of the elements which connect the points to the armature.

I'm fixing several of these. I found incomplete travel on some of them. I found that putting some contact cleaner in the plunger hole and lubricating the slide with some spray graphite solved my problem. I also cleaned the contacts with some De-Oxit. Hope this helps John

There is an electrical component to that.

Swap the switch motor to the opposite side and see if it works the same over there.
