Running trains on the new layout

A quick video I shot while running my old 1946 version Lionel Berkshire with what freight cars I have at the moment.  Took a couple track power level increases before the whistle woke up as I seldom blow it.  I was one handing the Type R transformer and 167 whistle/direction controller.  Enjoy!

Nice!  Those old 726's / 736's are like Sherman tanks!  Rugged and reliable!

The whistle probably needs a good cleaning and lubing.  Over the years people may have babied their Lionel engines but most ignored the whistles.

I have been thru the whistle, cleaned and relubricated.  With the voltage fall off in the old 167 controller, just takes more power to the track before the whistle motor comes alive.  I plan to replace the rectifier disc with the diode conversion that is commonly done in the transformers with the whistle control built in. That should help it blow better.
