Here is the official "why join" page: https://www.trains.com/why-join/
For CTT, you will get access to ALL back issues (of all Kalmbach train titles), access to new CTT videos and articles (some appearing in print but others not appearing in print), the streaming workshop cam, and access to all other articles and videos from our other brands.
Please note that this is not just an online version of the print magazine. This content is developed specially for the website--we don't just take the articles and throw them online. We're adding NEW content every week. For instance, I just added a video yesterday about repairing the Lionel no. 97 coal elevator.
You can sign up for a free 30 day trial if you want to test the waters.

Even more so when you know the site is not secure and you can't log off......
For that money fix the site or give it up.
No way will I go there the way this site works today!!!
You will also get access to ALL who want to hack this non-secure site.

I know what you mean, but if I kept every back issue of every mag I've ever gotten my house would look like the Collyer brother's!

CTT does have a DVD five-year archive for sale, though.

Now I like that! thanks!

You're welcome!
Uh, I hope you're talking about the DVD and not inspiration for interior design from the Collyer brothers article!
Those guys were hoarders before hoarding was "cool!"

What exactly is wrong with the security?
What kinds of vulnerabilities are there for users that can be exploited by others?
phrankenstig, I do not know how you enter this site. I use Firefox and as soon as I try to enter it flages me to the fact there is NO proctection for the site from any hackers. I don't know what you do on line but hackers can see it all if they want to go to any non secure site. This is one of those. Most secure sites will show a lock in the bar in front of of the address. This site shows a lock with a bar accross it that tells you it IS NOT secure. Next try to log off,,,good luck with that. Many have quit coming here just because they can not log Off. for me I do not stay logged on to any site. Many have addressed CTT with these issues and they turn a blind eye. The only way to log off is to clear all brouser history,I wil do that now.
I use Firefox also, so I see the lock with the bar across it. I'm able to log off whenever I want, because Firefox deletes all information from each site when I leave it.
Puzzled by KRM's strong objections, I decided to get educated about it. I found a web-site that gave a quick rundown of what SSL, TSL and https are all about:
https://www.websecurity.digicert.com/security-topics/what-is-ssl-tls-https
I always wondered what advantage there was to having a secure website, and that rundown is clear and concise.
I've been running a secure web-site for quite awhile here:
www.phrankenstign.com
To visit it, one can type:
phrankenstign.com
http://www.phrankenstign.com
http://phrankenstign.com
It doesn't matter which format you use, you'll end up at one of two places:
https://www.phrankenstign.com
https://phrankenstign.com
Both web-sites point to the same internet protocol (IP) address, so you'll get to my site no matter which of those versions you decide to type.As you may have noticed, both destinations begin with https. That designates the website is secured by an SSL certificate. If you read the rundown above, you'd know that TLS is just an updated, more secure, version of SSL. Rather than change https to httpt, it was decided to just leave it the same even though DigiCert stopped selling SSL certificates and now only sells TLS ones. The reason I explained all this was because it was very easy to make my web-site secure. Many web hosting sites include TLS certificates as part of their hosting packages. Others charge a nominal fee for it. Not only that, but it's very easy to implement it. One needs only to add a short file in a specific place within the web-site. I simply called my web host's support line, and he talked me through it in about 5 minutes. That was it!I now agree with KRM. Personal information (like names and addresses), financial data (like credit cards and bank account numbers), and user names/passwords are all at risk from being accessed by hackers. CTT has a responsibility to protect its customers private information to the best of their ability. Securing their web-site is inexpensive and simple. There's no good reason CTT should continue to operate an unsecure web-site.

You're absolutely correct. On the very rare occasions when I want to order something on-line I'll buy a gift card from a local supermarket and use that, any hacker that gets hold of the card's info is going to hit a dead-end. All or most of the money's going to be gone.
It costs a few extra bucks for the gift card but to me it's worth it.
Big-ticket items? Before I spend that kind of money I want to see it first.
I'm going to lock this post after I reply, but I wanted to let you all know that the new Trains.com (and all the related content) is indeed secure, using HTTPS.
However, the forums and the blogs run on a different server/software and those are NOT secure. You won't see the HTTPS there.
