I have a KW transformer that has been in storage for about 30 years. The power cord needs to be replaced and it needs to be checked out. My question is how to get the case off. I don't want to break anything. I removed the four screws but I can't figure out the control handles. Thank you for any help.

CAREFULLY. Pry up with equal presssure all around and they will come up. I slide a flat blade or a couple under the edge and you go around the with equal pressure. Remeber how they came apart. I lightly oil [that does not attack plastic] the metal between the two plastic handles. With wear, they will rub and one handle will start moving the other. Some tough soldering but you can get it replaced. While you are in there, check the terminals on the back of the KW board. If they are not good [wires broken aloose or threads bad], fix it then. You will see that U is the common and the ground side of the wiring. If you get it reversed with new polarized plug, you will have a time phasing it with other transformers. Take your time and think as you move. Good luck.
