Modern Lionel 5122 switch non-derailing feature works on just one leg but not the other

I am going to use 9 remote control switches on my layout.  All are the modern era reissues of the O-22 switches, Lionel # 6-5132 or 8-5133 that were new in the box sitting in my closet for over 30 years.  ALL have the two insulating pins in the proper rail as installed by the factory.  Testing at my workbench, using the fixed voltage plug, all 9 lanterns light up , 3 of the switches work fine but of the other 6, the derailing feature either works on only 1 of the 2 legs or does not work at all.  Any idea what to do?  Seems like the new switches "corrode" in the carton just by sitting all of these decades.

If you can't throw the turnouts using the controllers either, the problem may be corrosion in the internal switches.  So try exercising them manually.

But if you can you throw the turnouts using the controllers, a workaround is to create additional "control rails" (insulated outside-rail sections) in the tracks adjoining the faulty control rails and connecting to the appropriate turnout terminals.
