Colin, what kind of grassmat do you have on your layout? I like the color, looks like a lionel display layout landscape!

COLIN,
I think something to look at is the new little K-line switcher with the coal loads. I saw them at the York show and if you would line going down to the sub platform place a switch and a small )-27 radius you might have something the it could come out on th same track up top to another loop sort of like a dog bone. I might even have to try this because it starting to sound real cool. The only thing that you would have to worry about is the grade going up and down.
What ya think?

I think I should change my name to Colin [:D]

Since the layout I am formulating in my head and on endless peices of paper is all post war lionel. I would probably go with the smallest thing I can find. I envision it entering the tunnel and heading down. Since I am figuring on a lower level subway, I can just make the drop to the same level over time. It could even wind around below to have some time lag before it reappears on the surface. I would then have it come back up, perhaps behind a mountain and have it wind it's way into the scene so it reapperas from a completely different section. It could then hit an old style bumper and head back off behind the mountain to then remerge from teh tunnel later.

The more I think about it being a train pulling cars of ore, the less inclined I am to undertake it right away. First off, it would have to emerge from the tunnel with coal, but would have to disappear somewhere to re-enter the lower level. I could accompli***his with a few ore dump cars - I have one. Secondly, I am concerned about how big it would appear. I don't really want it to be a full size train.

THis has me leaning towards doing it the easy way, by using a gang car, or a hand car. If i came across a really beat up gang car, I would consider modeling something on that small big wheeled frame.

Sorry bout the name mixup 1000 pardons.
That sounds pretty neat, the idear of the gang car which makes me think of the Industrial Rail trolleys. They are inexpwensive and it you take off the top part you could fasion it to anything you want.

Good Idea, Laz.

But my layout is just temporary...

I am building a layout witch requires 50 pieces of 027 track.

Later I am also going to build 2 sidings.

The layout is in the January 2005 special edition of Model Railroader.

Thanx for the tip.,

Colin
