Hello everyone been awhile since I have posted anything here. I have a question, How much amperage should a Lionel 2344 draw? The one I have draws about 3.5 amps at half throttle, what should the amps be?
Thanks
Irontooth
That's about right, the AA should draw just shy of 5 amps at full throttle w/o a load. This is what I use to test CW-80 transformers under real conditions before I sell them. The current draw can be minimized with a careful cleaning of all grease & gears in the trucks & motor, and replacing with modern synthetic lubricants(I use Lucas Red 'N' Tacky #2 and Mobil 1).
Rob
Thanks Rob, One reasons I was asking this question was when I checked the picup rollers after running it they were very hot to the touch and was and am concerned about that amount of heat at the roller and rail
Thanks again
In addition to what Rob said, clean the brushplate, brushes and springs, the commutator, pickup rollers and all wheels and the track with Naphtha. Dirt anywhere will increase the amount of current used, which increases the heat generated.

Hi Larry Thanks for the info. When I got This NYC 2344, I disassembled the trucks and motors and gave them a cleaning amazing what gunk comes out of them.
