Lionel # 60 FAOS Loco?
Posted by Hoffman on Sunday, August 23, 2020 1:25 AM

Hello:  I am wondering if anyone call tell me anything about a Lionel #60 standard gauge loco.  Also marked FAOS which I assume is a reference to FAO Swartz toy company.  I can't find anything about this loco on Google which is odd to me.

Any and all info appreciated.  Thank you.  Tried to attach a pic here but couldn't figure it out.

Here's what Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains 1901-1942 Volume I has to say:

"60:  ca. 1915; 0-4-0; uncataloged F.A.O. Schwarz Special, same as 33, but rubber-stamped 'FAOS 60'; black.    NRS [No Recorded Sales]"

Greenberg has a great deal more to say about the 33.

Thanks!  Sounds like it might be a slightly scarce piece.

I guess I'll hold on to it.

Doesn't mention what rolling stock it was sold with by chance?

The "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains 1900-1942" by David Doyle corroborates Greenberg's guide:

"60:  In the mid-1910's, Lionel produced a run of its 33 0-B-0 locomotives especially for F. A. O. Schwartz.  The 'FAOS 60' markings were rubber-stamped in black.

RARITY:  Too rarely, if ever, traded to establish pricing."

There weere two others, the FAOS No. 61 was a special No. 42 and the FAOS No. 62 was a No. 38.  Since all three are reported as having "black rubber-stamped markings," the body paint color was probably light.
