With all the train shows seemingly cancelled this year, I predict sales will be brisk next year, provided the virus gets under control.
I've had a mean hanker in' for a good train show. Just remembering the last few I attended:
there is one dealer who is always there with great stuff, and very reasonable prices. I have bought a Lionel 2046, 2035, and a Marx 21 diesel from them. Dying to go back!
Then there is always that one dealer with virtually all the same stuff, at sky high prices! Never could figure than one out....
There is a table with used LGB gear, highly discounted. They are always there..
Lots and lots of Flyer steam engines, usually in the $75 dollar range. That is, except for the 4-8-4.
Marx items and sets scattered throughout the show.
Tables of Lionel postwar steamers in every condition...
This is burning inside of me!
How 'bout you?
Paul
And how brother!
In addition to everything you mention I certainly miss the festival atmosphere as well, and there's the "Oh WOW!" rush you get when you walk in the door.
I'm not going through withdrawal and tearing my hair out over no train shows, but I never thought I'd miss them the way I do.
Got to be patient. This miserable plague can't last forever.
A lot of years, with the train shows, I felt like I could take it or leave it. But now, all the memories, and the things I saw, but did not buy....
Yes, I guess you could say there was a lot I left on the table! Literally....
Good evening all,
I used to walk past all the Marx stuff. Ever since someone gave me a set with the scissor type couplers earlier this year, I have been wanting to go to a meet where I could get a few more freight cars. I know there is eBAY but shipping is so ridiculous for the price you pay. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Marx made some really interesting stuff! I like the tin freight cars from the 40's or 50's with the scissor couplers. They are approximately 3/16 th scale. Nice looking cars. But, mostly Marx went for the price point to be affordable to must people. Some of their steamers puffed smoke from the cylinders, and they had some clockwork engines with a spark wheel inside the stack.
Fascinating ideas they came up with!
It's been a long time since I can saythat I went to a train show and DIDN'T see something I 1: never saw before in person or 2: never see on web auctions. So yeah, I miss going even when I don't have anything in my purse beyond the price of admission. Those "rare sightings" make for a fine day on their own.
Same me, different spelling!
If nothing else, I am always amazed at the things that turn up at the train shows! Many things I had no idea ever existed, or were manufactured. Amazing, isn't it?
This dormancy will eventually taper off, and train shows will return. If not, you should thank a tort attorney...
But in the meantime, I organize my boxes of train related items. Make realistic decisions on what I will eventually use, and part out what I can shed. I prepare boxes of RR stuff for sale next year, and the condensing is shrinking the stacks of stuff, considerably.
I look forward to seeing my friends at YORK, maybe having some lemon icecream served off a tailgate. Speaking of, I think a certain talented individual would do well at York, if she were to display her work on a table of two. Thus, putting a little scratch in that purse...
just sayin'.

I concur wholeheartedly! And it wouldn't have to be York, a local show would do.
You never know unless you try.
I use my club shows as a way to clear out the stuff I don't use as a way to raise cash for the stuff I WILL use. Works pretty well.
The day I found out VHS format was dead was when I went to a Train show in 2002 The vids WERE NOT railroad related
Yeah, unless those VHS tapes are on subjects you absolutely positively can't find on DVD you can't even give 'em away. VHS is dead all right.
