Suggestions on Livery for a Marx CP Streamliner
Posted by Kent Model Locomotive Works on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 10:31 AM

Hey all, since losing the old shop (BTW appologies for the VERY blury pics from my last post, took them around midnight with a TERRIBLE quality phone camera for the lighting, after a busy day and was in a rush to get out the door, so from now on pics should be better, anyways), I have begun restoring a old marx canadian streamliner, however I don't want to put her back in her old colors. I was thinking of either doing a Royal Blue look or a military look, but I would love some suggestions. Any would be appreciated and considered.

A military look wouldn't be bad, in fact Marx used their CP styled engine as the basis for a military set.  A B&O  "Royal Blue" would look nice as well.  I happen to like the look of blue steamers myself, either the Jersey Centrals "Blue Comet" or today's Reading and Northern 425.

As we've said before, it's your engine, so pick a color scheme you like and go for it!

A royal blue with chrome or just polished steel would look sharp.

Check out this page for some really fun ideas: http://fauxtoys.com/pages/250-locos-powered.html  They sell printed "wraps" for Marx locos.  Here's a pretty neat redo in New Haven colors:

I want to buy their cool circus livery:

The set includes the wraps for the loco and tender plus 8 six inch cars for $40.

They have Commodores too:

and passenger cars:

Their Marine Corp set is spectacular:

Worth a peek!  Big Smile

Trains, trains, wonderful trains.  The more you get, the more you toot!  Big Smile

B&O Royal Blue sounds good (especially if you're representing the DC-NYC line.  If you're wanting more of a WV flavor, perhaps the Cincinnatian...?  I also think the C&O's yellow/silver Hudson livery would be eye catching (and not too hard to mask off).

Benz Trains (youtube) actually did an Army Marx streamliner, and it turned out pretty spiffy (with not a whole lot of effort).

Once you get it painted, let's see a pic on Sunday Photo Fun.YesCool

Beutiful stuff!  And some of those circus cars remind me of "Barnum's Animals," or more famously, "Animal Crackers" boxes.  The UP "49er" is a looker, too!

Talk about the spirit of toy trains!  Those wraps are pure fun!
