Neil Young has always been a minority partner. The decision to move to China was a corporate one. Back then, all consumer corporate manufacturing companies, including Lionel's compettitors, were all moving to china.

Niel Youngs main contribution to Lionel was develoment of TMCC in the early 1990s which brought Lionel into the 21st century. NY had a handicapped child who derived a lot of pleasure running trains. The control buttons developed for TMCC allowed his son to operate the trains.

Neil Young with his extensive experience in sound/recording/audio management also brought the realistic sound to Lionel locos using recordings (with looping) of real locos.
