and when I went to Customer Service they said that there was only one train set with a Engine sitting in a store 100 miles away. I would go to a hobby train shop but most have closed years ago around here and the ones that are left are RC Cars.
Menards do not sell engines. They have not gotten to that , not saying they won't, but we have asked them for a few years abot that. They only carry a couple of sets a year. goto www.menards.com/trains and you will see what they do carry. you can get any of it sent to your local Menards if they do not have it in stock at your store

RT is right Menards does not do Motive power at this time. I wish they would as they could not be any worse than the others doing it today.

Dave, I left you a detailed response to your post on the "Trains" Forum about this subject. Hope it helps.

Other than freight cars, track, and buildings, don't expect much from Menards. They stocked only a couple of powered sets at my local stores around chicago and it looks to me like they havn't ordered or recieved new product from Lionel for a few years now. Since there are few local hobby shops in most regions now you would be best served getting familiar with a good on-line/mailorder store. Then of corse eBay is just a few clicks away too.

I second checking the Trains section of their website and shipping to the store if you're interested in a starter set. I'm sure their customer service is helpful, but they may have been searching for one particular set or didn't quite understand what you were looking for.
