The museum in Hagerston is closed And Stout is auctioning off t the collection
Just found this out now
That's too bad. Ever been to "The Train Room's" museum? We have! Impressive as all hell, they had Lionel stuff in there I never knew existed. They even had the fully functional girl's stove from the 1930's!
Where did you get the information from? And are there any specifics as to what, why, and how?
Of Facebook The Train Rooms site AND Stout YES I WAS THERE last December wanted to GO BACK (did get a vid which I STILL HAVE TO EDIT) And like you said they had EVERYTHING (almost )Lionel made
Well, it's a shame but I'm sure there are reasons, I just wish I knew what they were.
Anyway, for everyone else, here's "The Train Room" website...
http://www.the-train-room.com/home.html They don't give a reason for closing either.
Found a video of "The Train Room's" display layout with some tantalizing views of the museum collection.

Sounds like they want to downsize a bit. I'd bet the insurance on a collection that size is wallet murder. But as they say, "It's just the museum pieces, not the store."
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Just downsizing? Yes, that could be it, and I never thought about what the insurance cost might be on a collection like that.
The thought did cross my mind that with the antique toy market being very soft right now and prices dropping maybe they want to unload the collection before the values drop even more?
I went to the Stout Auction site and even though the auction doesn't start until September 14th bids are being placed already. Last night the 455 Electric Range had a $110 bid on it, although I'm sure it won't be the high bid for long!
Good thing the store's not closing, it's one of the best train shops I've ever seen!
Uh Becky, I see the West Middlesex PA auction site's not too far from Cleveland. Are you going to "make a raid" over there?
I wish!
Yeah, me too!
I have been through Hagerstown west to east and south to north several times over the last ten years. I have even ridden my bike on the C&O trail and I have never heard of this place.

Um, I'm not trying to be a wise guy or make fun of you Buckeye, wouldn't dream of it, but haven't you ever looked at the "Leading Model Retailers" page of "CTT" magazine? "The Train Room's" been listed there for years.
Here's the thing. Whenever I take a trip somewhere I always look to see if there's any hobby shops in the area I'm going to. The "LMR" page is a VERY useful tool for that. Several years ago we were going to attend a Basset Hound rescue organization fundraiser that was happening in the same area, so before the trip I did my hobby shop check, and bingo! Found "The Train Room." So glad I did!
And while I've got everyone's attention, just down the road from "The Train Room" is a neat place called the "Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum," well worth a visit as well.
The wife and I, plus another couple, showed so much enthusiasm for the displays the staff opened up their Christmas O gauge layout for us and gave us a private viewing! Here's a video I found...

I would have gotten there sooner was not far from Hagerston in 2001 for cousin's wedding BUT since I was not driving............(family trip)
May try to go to pt 2 in Nov
I have traveled through Hagerstown a couple of times a year for 30 years. Only place I've stopped is the outlets. Wish I had known about this place. Probably check it out next trip.

I'm in good company.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Anyone bid at the auction?
No, not me. I'm really not too crazy about on-line auctions, I want to SEE it in person before I spend money on it, and that Pennsy auction location's just too far away for a road trip.
I WAS curious about what the Lionel 455 electric range went for. Looks like the winning bid was $875.
Sounds about right The u Drive boats went over 2000.00 each
I DID get some things just waiting for the invoice tried to get a Microscope did NOT go cheap so NO
Gotta wonder who bought the toilet (NO IT WAS NOT me)
There was a Lionel toilet???
Oh, I could make one hell of a wisecrack, but I'd better not. I've been moderated once already!
OK, I did some checking. It wasn't a Lionel toilet, just a plain old real railroad "Don't flush in the station" toilet.
They had Central Pacific chamber pot too! I wonder if that "thunder mug" was at the "Golden Spike" ceremony in 1869? Talk about a "silent witness!"
Anyway, here's the links for the curious. Not sure if they'll work...

I believe the toiket was from a REAL caboose or passenger car
Here's one I "toured" but didn't use!
However I did use the one on this car:
Can't say the experience was so special that I'd bid on one.
