Lionel "I Love New York"
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 2, 2005 1:03 PM
This may be a totally stupid question, but since I am still relatively new to the hobby, can anyone tell me what the deal is with the Lionel 6-19949 "I Love New York" boxcar? I've seen only one picture of one, it has the Twin Towers on it, and I can't find one for sale anywhere. Have they all been snapped up by collectors, or did Lionel not produce it after the tragedy? The only one I have seen was on grahamstrains.com. Thanks.

No question is a stupid one, but my guess is that Lionel stopped producing it after 9-11.
That would make it a collectors item, and very hard to get..

This boxcar is #16 in the "I Love" series covering the 50 states. Usually, a maximum of four different states are issued per year, and are catalogued one time only. This particular boxcar was from the 1997 Classic catalogue. I don't know where you can find one though.

Most things Lionel produces, they have one production run and that's it. Exceptions are the high volume train sets.
