Good Morning,
Been awhile (again).  Not much going on here, in the past week did complete a couple of tasks;
- Completed and filed state sales taxes (for our company)
- Completed and filed fed and state income taxes
- Continued support for Kay and her parents, spent 2 1/2 days shuttling back and forth to Drs appts. etc.

Helped move Chris back to So Cal, doing some temporary storage for a couple of months until he gets his feet on the ground.  I did end up with a mini refrig, got it situated and running under the layout.

Don't have a lot going on today, (except another appointment).

Kev, Those pictures are fantastic!!  Really great area.

Take care all !!

Don

Hi guys,

Deck progress is slow but sure. Washed it yesterday and it looks good. Cut all the 16' old boards down to 8' today and put them on Brain's fire pile. Then cleaned up out back. I think I will get some Sherwin Williams Super deck solid stain to match what I had and is on the porch posts on the shed. It is 30% off till the end of the month. I can't stain till I know it will not go below freezing for a few days.

Thanks Don, it will look a lot better out here in a month or so once the woods come back to life. Wink Sounds like you have plenty going on.

Well could not afford a new Gator so gave this one a new set of seats. She don't look bad for 14 years and 2,457.9 Hours.

Hey, Happy Monday......

First thing this morning, IT decided it was a really bright to redo the Wifi without telling me...and nothing worked.  So,fortuneately my former IT guy was here and set everything right and been playing catchup ever since.

Need to make a stop at Hobby Lobby for some green turf, Michael's doesn't have enough and some liquid glue.  That will be for the spray, the turf I got at Michael's doesn't quite like the glue.

I did clean the upstairs somemore and now I can walk around it a bit more.  The rope light is mounted on 1x3 boards and attached to the trusses.  It's more stable an shows more light.  So, all in all there is some progress.

Fife - THANK YOU for that great personal tour of your layout by the grand pup!!  Very nice and entertaining!!

Just starting to rain here, sun was out for a while and was warm, now rain and colder.... Have to get back to work - a quick update was done on the YouTube.

Back later!!

Hello There,

check out Fife's video on SPF. It's Great.

Kev....that looks like quite the project.

Son bought 3 feeders Saturday. A hereford bull and hiefer. Also  a holstein steer. All about 400lbs each. Took us a couple hours to get the barn ready and get them settled.

Spent yesterday at a twirling competition. Girls didn't do so well this time. 3rd in their trio, grandaughter was 3rd in her solo and 4th in the strut. It was a long day. We got lunch about 430.

Mrs got the crud I had last week and stayed home today. I'm still not motoring to good so didn't do much today

Off to bed soon.

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

Very quiet day at work.  Windy weather for walking.  Enjoyable evening at home with one of the granddaughters as we did puzzles and watched "A Bug's Life".  Got the regular issue of CTT and the six Scout type cars I ordered.   All looks good.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sun and 40s today. Pretty much the normal for here.

York is closing in but I'm not going this year. It's the one time I get to see out of town train nuts so I will miss that.

Morning folks!

Another sunny day but quite a bit cooler due to DougM' and Buckeye' leaving the freezer door open. 46 right now and maybe 60 today. Same on tap for next 3 days...

Got word the nieces MIL got off the ship ok after it got towed to port. Interesting it was reported 3 of 4 engines were operational. The Viking Sky is just 2 years old...sounds like they need to go back to the drawing board!

Been sorting through stuff, took some older cordless tool batteries (no longer available) to Batteries+Bulbs to see about getting them rebuilt. They are able to rebuild NiCad packs if there are screws holding the case together. They do not rebuild Lithium Ion battery packs. Said they are too  dangerous to handle/possibly catch fire during the lead welding process...that's comforting. I have this really nice Black and Decker drill that I wanted to rescue, but the NiCad batt case is pinned. They said if I could get the case apart they would try to build a battery for it. So got the Dremel out and cut it open and then modified it for screws. Darn case had 3 large (3/16 in dia - 1 in long) double ended drive pins (they really did not want anyone to open them up) to hold the case halves together.

Morning folks!

Another beautiful start to the day. We are having a typ spring with nice cool/crisp temps (high 40's/low 50's) in the morning and pleasant temps (high 60's/low 70's) in the afternoon. Seems past years we would jump from winter to summer. And this weekend thanks to SJ, DougM, and Buckeye, we will get another cool jolt to below normal temps for several days...ahhhhhh Cool

DJ - hope the shoulder gets better soon!

Happy Hump day....

Sunny and up to 50 today.

Thinking a mental health day is coming on......Have to schedule a physical any ways....

Spent half an hour on the layout with grass.....and more to plant.  I have some spary glue, seems to work ok, put I bought more Elmer's and will be using that tonight.....lotsa grass to plant...lol.  The completion of Spooky Town is getting closer.

Finding more loose rolling stock and the "staging" yard in the "closet" upstairs is working out. Most of my stuff is either boxed or in a dive case.  Might do more rolling stock hunting and start to pre-wire the electrical outlets.  I have 3 to do.

Not much else, 9.5 to 10 hour days 5 days a week....getting tired, lol.

Back at it!!

Afternoon Fellas

I have been taking some time off to get things addressed at the various houses. The Pittsburgh house sold, just waiting on inspections and then closing. Our current house is on the market, so just doing some touch-ups here and there. The new house is progressing. Stopped there yesterday and they have the 1st floor's floor joists in. I was able to get down into the basement from the exitway steps and I was most impressed. Can't wait to see the walls go up!

Fife - watched the videos! Nicely done! Loved the narrator!

Good Afternoon from sunny clear 66°F Southern Ohio,

Working on the layout wiring.  I decided to go ahead and re-used the control panel from the old layout.  Using the 22090 instead of the 30Bs so the openings on top will be different.  I should be able to use most of the existing switches and wiring.  Most of the wires are labeled but I’m sorting through and verifying now so as I place an accessory, it will be wired to a connector block and the wires from the control panel will go right to the connector block.  I ordered 100 forked spade connectors for $7.

I think a dog got ahold of a couple of my chickens.  Injured one bad enough I went ahead and killed it and the other is slowly moving around but we’ll see about it.  This leaves us with 4, maybe three layers.  Good the chicks are only about 6 months from laying.

Buckeye - No I did not see the article about the Circleville layout, please tell me more.

Fife - really neat video of your layout and your grandson is great!

May God bless you and your families

Jim

Spring break for the grand kids so we have had the daughter's two for the last two days.

Two days with the kids keeps one going. Jordan and I cleaned up three down trees with the tractor and all the dead wood on the trails with the gator and I sure love that grapple attachment. No work involved and he loves to sit on my lap and be the operator. Can't have much more fun than grabbing things with the tractor and grapple. Wink

Got the deck framework I wanted stained done this morning and had enough to do a lot more. All of the tops of the stringers and anything that will touch the new wood is covered and the steps and face plates of the frame have a fresh coat of stain.

Grand daughter keep the wife happy and they did some shopping so we all had things going on.

Weather was just fine today but rain is on the way tomorrow and that say snow on Saturday for DougM,,, Smile, Wink & Grin

Kids wanted some of my chili so in about ten minutes we will eat Dinner then I will head to Menards to meet their mom and drop them off.

Time to get.

Back from the farms.  Bought the next to largest Stihl powerhead, string trimmer attachement and the blade cutter attachment.  WOW.  Three blade on the cutter attachment made haste to cutting new shooting lanes in new property.  Worth the money.

Now rest.

Good evening all,

Two boring meetings today partially (barely) spiced with a couple of noteworthy announcements.  Otherwise quiet.  Moderately good weather for walk.  Had nice dinner at Frisch's with the better half.  Watched Jane the Virgin.  Lots happening there.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Evening,

So far today has been the highlight for the week, rearranging storage areas in the garage.  The majority of the time has been supporting the inlaws.  He can no longer get in and out of the car and requires to be lifted, and Kay can't do it alone, so I help.  So far this week has been 3 seperate Dr appts, and one extended trip to ER Tues night.  That ends up being a 5 or 6 hr ordeal.  Both of them have appts tomorrow, so on it goes.

Think maybe the weather here is getting with the season.  Been really nice the past couple of days.

Chief, Glad to hear that you decided on the gas Stihl power head instead of the electric corded one.

Roy, When you were talking about the transformers, reminded me of one position I had at EPE Power Systems.  Would have to have the Varnish tank (below ground pit) cleaned out, had a crew with jackhammers chipping out the varnish out of the tank.  Would take a week!

Buckeye, Sounds like Ohio has as many or maybe more train museums as PA.

Take care all!

Good morning all!

Cloudy here, breezy, 63 right now, mid-70's later. Cold front Sat and cloudy days predicted for the next 7 days - ugh - had been enjoying the sun!

DonB - glad you mentioned varnish. I was thinking lacquer which I knew was wrong. I think the Lionel transformers were assembled by sliding the iron core laminations together through the windings which is why the core laminations are not varnish dipped to keep them from buzzing. The one ZW buzzing sounded like a giant Lionel Vibrotor motor! Very annoying unlike the gentle buzz many have.

Anj - glad you continue to make progress on the layout!

Phish - too bad about the chickens.

Kev - good deck progress!

Brent - that is great news about the houses, new and old!

Regards, Roy

Phish....On page 50 of the May issue of CTT, they are featuring a layout by Bill Parker of Circleville, Ohio. It is of course filled with B&O and C&O. It is a big layout at 24'x18'. He has also opened up a new section that is 8'x20'.

Beautiful day in the valley. I installed a Craftsman tool system in the garage. As a kid my folks used to have a garage where you could not park a car. It was full of junk. I'm the opposite.

Still working on the new layout plans, but there were so many things I liked with my old layout, i.e., bridges, return loops, and grades I am incoporating those items. This time I want to make room for a highway going under the tracks in a tunnel. The grandsons want a lake on the layout and provided me with the necessary figures.

Rain heading our way.

Boiler up! Hammer down!

TGIF!!

Got home late, debated on going to fire drill, I did a small section of grass, then went to drill.  AND that was a waste od time and manpower.  Let's have a drill where everyone is involvd, not just a few, huh?  Got home at 930 and crashed.

Been a long week, had to get in early, the upper management wanted us in early, so at 0710 I was here, and waited until 0730 to get a scan.....was asked to stay late....ok, well, it is overtime....

After this craziness (it is end of month, after all.....) I'll run over to the PHL airport and pick up a friend and drop her off at her apartment.  It's on my way home, so no biggie.

Fife - Sorry about dem Os.....

Off to another scan, looks like it's gathering steam.....

Hello there.

Quick post between fish fry prep  and frying fish.

Been busy getting ready for contractor next week.

Visit to doc Wednesday resulted in less carbs and more exercise. A1C is on the rise. Didn't buy my story that its from sitting on my butt while recuperating.

Best get to it.

Good morning from a cloudy and cool North Bluff Above Marseilles IL..

Cool and no sun but good working weather. Going to try to get some work done on the deck today. Hope to install an inside shut off valve for the LP line to the deck for the grill (never had one inside just one outside) I want both. And maybe get the top plate boards on.

Better get to it.

Good morning all!

Cloudy here and will stay that way for days - Cold front tomorrow - possible rain. 78 for a high today.

Chevy sent me a couple of free tics for the DFW Auto Show going on this weekend - if the son is up for it we might go - parking downtown is expensive and hard to find at the convention center - so may take the light rail - think there is a station at the conv ctr...

Hey Gang!!

End of month means everyone here loses their mind....lol!!!

Got here at 0710 per request of the senior VP, and supposed to stay late.  We'll see how that goes.

Off to PHL airport afterwards to pick up my friend, then home.

Did get a little grass done prior to my bad decision to go to drill (which was a total waste of time in my view).

Hope to plant more "grass" tonight and tomorrow morning, maybe get that part done.
