New toy train video series: Truck's Toy Trains
Posted by Rene Schweitzer on Friday, December 07, 2018 11:08 AM

In the upcoming March issue, I discuss the first part of a new video series that's on MRVP called Truck's Toy Trains. John Truckenbrod has an amazing postwar Lionel collection and shares it with us.

Part 1 shows John's "replica" 1950s-style hobby shop and layout. It's FREE for everyone to watch on MRVP here.

Part 2 is now live and it features John's 3 Fs of collecting--Fun, Focus, and First acquisitions. See some postwar items and even a set in the original outfit box!

I will be very interested to see how well Toy Train features are recieved on the MRVP site.

In the 1960-1990's Toy Train operators and collectors were often referred to like they were  "second class citizens" in the pages of Model Railroader, and many comments were made about how "childlike" we were in our approach to the hobby and how "crude" our modeling was.

It will be interesting to see if the"rivet counters" and the "I'm just playing with my trains the way I want to" folks can all get along together.  Hopefully none of the Toy Train folks will be chided for giving in to "The Dark Side of the Force."

Tommy, Scroll under the video of part 1 and read the comments. Nearly all are positive.

Well that's nice.  If there's a truce between the toy train folks and the HO people then can stop making snarky comments like  "HOHow Ordinary!"

Now if I can just get my brother-in-law "Big B" to stop making nasty comments about O gaugers and their stinky, smelly, noisy trains on his N gauge club website...

Lady Firestorm has put him on notification that she is not amused!

I mean, just look at some of these rather ungracious remarks!  http://www.nnjn-trak.org

That is one stunning collection Truck has,  he must have the patience of a saint running down all those collectables!

His hobby shop motif?  I'm not so sure, it looks too good!  Every great hobby shop I went to in the old days looked like a bomb went off inside!  On the other hand, they usually had the best stuff!
