We recently watched the movie Holiday Affair from 1949 staring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh. A toy train was an important part of the plot. When I first saw it I guessed it to be a Lionel postwar passenger set with Santa Fe cab unit diesels. But the cars were heavyweight coaches in dark paint. I also wondered if it really was Lionel or if it was even O-guage. Now I wonder if it could have been American Flyer or Marx. Anyone else see the film on TCM?
The Red Rocket Express? Calling Doctor Carp. Will Doctor Roger Carp please pick up this call? (He can explain it best. )
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
I have written more about Holiday Affair in the December 2016 issue of CTT and then followed that up in Christmas and Electric Trains.
You can obtain copies at the Kalmbach Hobby Store.
Good luck,

I believe the train is postwar Lionel--a Santa Fe F3 and "Madison" cars, re-labeled as the "Red Rocket Express".
