Trouble Installing D Cell
Posted by atVMAXGG99 on Sunday, December 2, 2018 5:50 AM

Hi All, just picked up a PW GP7 2338 and I'm having problems installing the D size battery in the battery holder and trying to get the cover back on.  I'm assuming a modern day D size Alkaline battery would work since the D size would be a standard or am I wrong in that assumption?  Are there any other owners of this loco that experienced the same problem and there's a trick to getting this cover back on with the battery in place?

That has always been a problem until you get the knack for it. Basically you put it over the clip first, then you have to push against the clip and screw it in, I have always had the screw already in the cover so I can line it up and it's ready to screw it in. I use to try it without the screw in the hole already and boy was that a hassel, especially getting that tiny screw in a tight place.

I don't have the 2338 but I have 2359 and others which are basically the same set up.

Here is the service manual page for the locomotive describing how to install the battery.

Thank you so much!  This was what TrainLarry linked to as well!  I would've been fighting with this thing forever!
