Christmas lights for the layout

I thought I'd make a post that wasn't a question for a change...

Today as I was doing some grocery shopping on my day off, I made a stop to go through some clearance sales. You want a lot of small lights for $2 or less? Now is a good time to get strings of christmas lights cheap, if you have a lot of buildings close together, this could be an easy way to light them all.

Alternately, strings of red or blue lights might be good for general mood lighting to give a tint during sunset or night time.

I picked up some today, and I'll probably have that kind of stuff set up today. I'll put the various lights on a dimmer so I can control them, and to make sure the heat generated in the buildings I'm lighting like this doesn't get excessive.

Will,

This is exactly what I do with old strings of lights. On the 100 light sets (2.5 - 3 volt lamps) - five lights in series work well at about 14 vac.
