Lionel #8 Standard Gauge engine Wheel Size.
Posted by PCB on Sunday, September 30, 2018 1:05 PM

Hi,

I am trying to re-wheel my early #8 engine.  I do have a set of 2.75" wheels but the motor will not fit all the way into the chassis as the cutout for the wheels is not large enough.  My engine has strap headlights so it is a very early example.  I assume that these versions used a smaller diameter wheel (2.375")?

  Thanks,     Peter

Check this website...

www.henningstrains.com

They specialize in reproduction parts for Standard Gauge trains, so they may have a reference list of the appropriate parts you need.

Or you can call or e-mail them.  I've shopped there and they're nice people.

The wheels for the #8 are part #SM-72.

Hennings does indeed have a set of wheels for it.
