Eric's Trains in CTT ???
Posted by Michael6268 on Sunday, September 23, 2018 1:29 PM

On Eric's Trains latest video, he stated he is going to start doing reviews for CTT. starting with the Nov issue.  Nothing personal, but Bobs reviews are now going to be done by Eric's Trains??  Reviewing products for "Classic Toy" trains?? All he deals with on his site are high end high priced models.  He has even reviewed a Lionchief Plus Mikado and described ot as a "low end, entry level, beginners" engine. I realize Bob reviewed higher end stuff also, but not to one extreme.   I'm not one to throw away money on todays overpriced "disposable electonics junk" products that are being produced today.  I had a choice to go high end or stick traditional and thats what i did.  And thats why im here.  For me this is a big disappointment...

Eric is also slow to make a point. he draws it out over many minutes. This is a big down grade for CTT. Sorry you had may have had what you thought was a rough diamond but now all your getting is a jagged rock if you try to compare the two. You have just gone down hill. If this is how your going, I probably will not renew my subscription. Not try to stick up for Bob on this but the fats are the facts. I would be most of your readership may have TMCC or Legacy even there not high end. As most to my knowledge can't budget $1000 - $2500 engines which eric tries to push.

Ummmm, maybe there's something here I don't understand, but why would CTT pay Eric (who seems like a nice guy) to write reviews when everyone can see and hear what he has to say on You Tube free?

I do admit I'm a little slow at times...

Anyway, here's Eric making the announcement...

I'll agree with RT.  I really don't have time to listen to him drone on about stuff I'm not going to buy.  His editing skills are annoying after about 3 minutes.  Make your point and move on with it, I don't have 45 minutes to an hour of disposible time to watch a video on 1 specific model.  5 to 10 minutes TOPS!

I'm not sure that LionChief is "entry level", but the bang for the buck is definietly something to look at, as I have 3.  And let's back off the MTH stuff....too much of Mike's "stuff", I like the fact there are more Williams, which is great.

Honestly, replacing Bob with Eric is a mistake.

But then again, I don't work for Kalmbach.....I'm just a suscriber until 2021.....

Many of us knew Bob at York. He was well liked and knowledgeable. In my opinion the "suit" that decide to removed him made a big mistake. My subscription runs out in 2020. Who needs a 45 minute video on a 10 minute subject.

I would like to welcome Eric aboard and look forward to his contributions. We all resist change, and Bob is definitely missed, but we shouldn't take it out on Eric. Speaking for myself, I appreciate his YouTube channel reviews with regards to the detail and the historical background on the model being reviewed. Even if I'm not in the market for what is being reviewed, he does a thorough job of reviewing features, in which some may be new to the hobby. And, you can't deny his passion for the hobby as well. Welcome aboard Eric!

Gotta agree with RJSMITHINDY.  You can't translate Eric's long video reviews into 2 or so pages per item in CTT.  It's apples and pomegranates.  His love of the hobby and knowledge of all manufacturers should assure us that CTT is on the right track here.

It's not the change.  It's how it was done.  No disrespect to Eric intended at all.

I got the latest CTT a few days ago but haven't had the time to get into it yet.  I'm willing to give Eric a fair appraisal, as angry as I was ( and still am) about Bob being let go.

Change?  There's an old quote about that...

"There is a time for everything, there is even a time for change, and that is when change can no longer be avoided!"

HRH The Duke of Cumberland, 1896.

By the way, has anyone besides me noticed it's gotten very quiet and slow here on the Forum since Bob left us?  Cause and effect?  I don't know.  Maybe things will pick up as the weather gets colder and folks head back inside.  Hopefully.

I just read Eric Siegel's review of the Atlas Trainman Dash 8-40CW, and I have to give credit where credit is due.  It's well-written, interesting, concise, and very much to the point.  He did a good job.

Carl Swanson's review of the Menards police station is well done too.

Seems Eric is working for the other magazine now.   Wonder if he still doing reviews for CTT?  Could be he jumped ship,  or maybe got pushed over....
