Lionel 6-12027 isolated track vs. 6-12029 insulated track
Posted by firsttimer on Sunday, June 24, 2018 8:26 AM

I recently purchased the Lionel Fastrack 6-12062 O Gauge Grade Crossing with Gates and Flashers, which came with two marked five in. 6-12027 isolated track sections, each of which has a "break" in it.  I am interested in extending ones side of the crossing for longer activation but am getting mixed references as to what track I need.  I am being told that I need the 6-12029 insulated track to do this, but this track does not have the break in the rail.  Which one of these can I use without having to make alterations to the track?

Thanks!

Best to read the manual wich shows this. https://www.lionelsupport.com/media/servicedocuments/5851712062250.pdf

The Isolated tracks provide for an insulated outside rail activation track. The crossing gate activated by connecting one side to the center rail and the other side to an insulated outer rail. A passing train completes the connection to the isolated rail through the wheels.

If you need a longer isolated track section you can make your own isolated track extenders by simply taking a regular fastrack and removing the tie strip between the outer rails.
