Prewar Color Replacements

As I mentioned in my previous post regarding label adhesives, I am repainting a prewar 805 boxcar.  the body is pea green and the roof is orange. Does anyone know the equivalent colors from Testors or another contemporary brand and/or a conversion chart for prewar colors?

Thanks Bob.  I’ve looked at his website but its not economically feasible for my purposes. He gets $9 per can plus $9 shipping. I try to avoid repainting when possible, so I don’t know when I’ll need the paint again.

Hennings Trains in Lansdale PA has a line of correct pre-war paints for restorations.

What the cost is I don't know.  If it's not economical for you I'd just take the old car to a hardware store and find the closest Rust-Oleum color.  Either that or take it to a hobby shop and see how close you can get.  In the end you only have to please yourself.

From what I can see, Hennings sells it thru Ebay as I clicked the links and it came up on ebay for $12.95 for the 1/2 pint can. And $7.10 for shipping. but to get to there you have to go thru a Ebay sale he did previously and it was a lot cheaper for both the can and shipping.

Ultimately I just hoofed it to my local Michaels and found cans of Testors that are "somewhat close" to the Lionel colors, but they also had brush-on enamels that are very close, with names like "Tangerine" and "Sublime Green".  I've never tried airbrushing before but I'm gonna try it with Testor's propellant-based kit (I figure I can always strip it again and go with the spray cans).  Wish me luck!
