Also would have liked the elevated train set from Ward Kimballs auction       but over 30,000............................   Tried to buy a New Haven 209 box once stopped at 500.00                 kept going................

Lotsa things I could spend 75 big ones on, but I don't think a bronze wall plaque would be one of them.

I thought it was interresting thet they described it as "the holy grail" of toy train collecting.  Personally, I can think of a lot of things that would be higher on my list.  Like one of the standard Gauge "Special Window Display" sets in chrome and bronze or maybe the preproduction model of the 45 gateman.

There is nothing that I'd pay $75,000 to purchase.
Two extremely scarce items I'd like to find at a price I was willing to pay are:

Prewar #5 test bench (no letter after the 5). - it was the first one offered.

Postwar #211 Texas Special AA ALCOs in the original seperate sale boxes - This engine was normally included in sets lacking individual component boxes, and is fairly common. However, it was also offered as a seperate sale item, and did come boxed. I know this as a fact, because I purchased several sets from a department store was I was a kid. Unfortunately, I let them go. (No books to tell me they were rare). I have not seen another legitimate set since.

Now THAT one looks like it's in such good shape I'd go the extra cash for it!

I do kind of question the "Tiger Killer" tag they put on it, one-on-one with a Tiger the T-34 would come out second-best.  They overwhelmed the Tigers by sheer weight of numbers, not that the T-34's weren't good, they certainly were.

Ever been in a T-34?  I have, and man it's tight in there!  The average Russian tanker couldn't have been over 5'8" and thin as a rail! I'm a six-footer and it was a squeeze for me moving around in the thing!

Had a chance to buy the Mining Train That Fritz Von Teager got from the original owner     passed  

Had TWO opurtunities to buy a 773  in 1982   and 2009   passed due to other commitments(Do have the outer box for the 1964 one though)

 AND back in the early eighties some guy was selling a double o set in case wanted two hundred something Dad had to say no  to that

   and was at the Ward Kimball sale by Noel Barret in 2004

did get an Ives Diesel a European Building and the figures shown on the TM video there

So impulsively got ONE lot from Julliens Auction (Not gonna be buying anything for a bit after that)

 

AND that 40,000 collection in 2016  (Homer Simpson Drooling noise)
