I can't get my new train to work...and it's driving me crazy

I have a Lionel Winter Wonderland train set, brand new, and it's stopped working after two days. We have checked the track for secure connections; have plugged and unplugged the powerpack connectors (black wire to outside track and U pole, red to inside track and and A pole); and reset the train on the tracks several times.

All of this has gone for naught: the green light comes on at the terminal, but no lights come on in the caboose or headlights on the locomotive, not to mention there is no movement of the train on the tracks no matter how many times I move the throttle back and forth.

it seems to me I must be missing something. Is thgere anyone who can suggest what it might be? Help!

If you have a voltmeter, check the transformer terminals to see if it's putting any power down to the tracks. If its not, it sounds like you may have a dead power supply. Does that set come with a CW80 transformer? If so, you may want to check out CheifEagle's thread here:

This is the third thread I've read in two days about problems with the CW80. Sounds like Lionel may have another problem on it's hands. [:(]

If it turns out that your transformer is, in fact, dead, contact Lionel and they should make good on it. They have a great Customer Service dept.

Try taking the loco off the track and leave the caboose on. If the caboose lights, then the problem may be in the loco (although this is rare as these are pretty durable units).

I called Lionel after trying everyones suggestions, and the woman at Customer Service said there is a problem with a batch of the CW-80 transformers. They're shipping me a new one, but I don't know if it'll get here in time for Christmas. If not, Oh well, I guess we get to wait until next year......sigh

If you know anyone with trains or perhaps have a local train shop you should be able to borrow a cheap (thinking K-line here) transformer or purchase one for cheap to get you through this holiday.

Well...I hadn't thought about that....I guess it wouldn't hurt to call the local train store and explain to them my predicament....and see whether or not they'll take pity on me....thanks for the suggestion...
