Do any of you folks out there have a recommendation on what the best guide for Marx trains and accessories is? In particular I’m primarily interested in lithographed rolling stock and accessories. Looking on-line I find the following guides available:
Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains (1978)
Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains, Vol 1 (1989)
Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains, Vol 2 (1990)
Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains by Matzke (1985)
While all are readily available, there is scant description of their content. I already have the most recent edition of the Greenberg price guide. I’m more interested in descriptions and photos than current value. So once again, any suggestion on which one best matches what I’m looking for?
Thanks
Papa D
If you want the most info you would need all the Greenburg guides including the set guide. They kinda toss in a little of everything in each so you we had to buy all of them I have 3. (not for sale)

Thanks Sir James for the quick reply. I was hoping that wasn't the case since the approximate price for each guide is $75. I have a $100 Amazon gift card I recently received for my 69th birthday so I guess I'll start with Vol 1 and go from there.
The set guide gives you a good overview and pic's of Marx trains but only list the contents of each set.> If your gonna be a Marx fan the books are really nice to have.
Update: I’ve bought Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains, Vol 1 (1989) and Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Trains, Vol 2 (1990). As Sir James I pointed out, information is spread out in the 3 volume set (I don’t have Vol 3 which supposedly focuses on sets). Volume I has the information I was looking for on wind-up steam engines and 6-inch metal cars. Volume 2 has the information I was looking for on accessories. While not cheap, I’ve got my moneys worth of enjoyment leafing through them.
I would like to suggest Walt Hiteshaw's "The Definitive Guide to Marx Trains, Six-Inch Tin & Joy Line" CD. I think it is the most thorough and complete resource available for Marx 6" lithographed train cars. Take a look at: http://www.toyandtrainguides.com/
His website is fantastic, and I really enjoy the information about British Marx tin trains.

I'll second JamesP's recommendation. Walt's CD is outstanding.
